Windstream Communications

Windstream is a customer-focused communications company with more than 12 million customers and $8 billion in annual revenues.  Windstream provides wireless, local telephone, long-distance, Internet and high-speed data services to residential and business customers in 26 states.

Statewide, Windstream serves more than 1.3 million communications customers, with operations based in Hudson.  Hudson is also the headquarters for Windstream's Network Operations Center and Directory Publishing company that produces directories for Windstream and for more than 100 independent telephone companies.  Windstream provides services to 50 counties in the State of Ohio.

Windstream employs more than 2,200 Ohioans and paid more than $57 million in taxes in 2004.  Windstream’s payroll for 2004 was more than $126 million.  The company invested over $105 million in 2004 to expand and improve its network throughout the State.

Windstream prides itself in local community involvement, volunteer efforts and donations to charitable organizations.  Windstream serves as a corporate sponsor for many organizations and events, including the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic Charity Golf Classic, University of Toledo Athletics and the NFL’s Cleveland Browns.  Windstream is the official telecommunications provider for University of Akron Athletics.

Windstream strives to ensure the well-being of the community through donations of products and services, financial support and employee volunteers to a wide variety of programs.  Among these programs are the United Way and other health-related agencies.  Windstream supports education-related organizations like Junior Achievement that educate and inspire youth.  Windstream also participates in Partners in Education programs with elementary and junior high schools in our service areas.  Windstream supports organizations that enhance communities through performing arts and cultural programs.  During times of emergency and disaster relief, Windstream provides financial and telecommunications support to local American Red Cross chapters, recovery teams and municipalities to help rebuild their communities.  Windstream encourages customers to participate in the EcoSmart program by recycling their used wireless handsets.

Donated phones are refurbished or recycled to help raise funds for charities.

Safety on the roads and using your wireless phone safely while driving are top priority to Windstream.  The company provides information to driver education programs and motor vehicle offices in many areas about the safe use of wireless phones while driving.  Windstream supports the VITA Wireless Samaritan Awards, which recognize the outstanding public service and citizenship of individuals who have used wireless phones to summon for help in emergency situations.

At Windstream, we are committed to bringing much more than just telecommunications products to the areas we serve.  Windstream’s goal is to strengthen each community where we do business.
