With 36,000 access lines in service, Horizon Chillicothe Telephone, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Horizon Telecom, Inc. offers a 100 percent digital switching system to its subscribers. Located just 45 miles south of Columbus, Chillicothe Telephone's service area covers nearly 800 square miles of contiguous territory in Ross County. Horizon employs approximately 300 people and is the third-largest company paying property tax in the Chillicothe Telephone calling area. Horizon became the first telephone company in the eastern United States to deploy VDSL (very high bit-rate digital subscriber line) service in August 2000. Horizon is simultaneously delivering digital video service (with more than 117 cable channels), high-speed Internet, and voice-all over the twisted copper pair which serves traditional telephone subscribers today. In addition to wireline telephone service, digital video and high-speed DSL Internet service, Horizon offers business telephone system sales, multi-media sound system design and installation, computer consulting services and long distance service. Bright.net, an affiliate of Horizon, is the largest locally owned dial-up Internet service provider in southeast Ohio. Horizon has 352 sheath miles of fiber optic cable installed within its service area and has invested $12 million in digital network improvements within the last decade. . |
